New Branding | Mood Board

I’m excited to share that I’m working with a designer to reimagine my business logo and branding! Things are starting to really pick up with my work and it’s time for me to be even more intentional about investing back in my business. Crafting a new look for Kelsey Mitchener Editing has been on my wishlist for a while, so it’s fun to be at a point now where I can make that happen with the help of an awesome designer.

Let’s Do This!

Okay, Let's Do This | Kelsey Mitchener Editing

Today’s the day! As of June 1 I’m freelance editing full-time! *happy dance*

I’ve been editing professionally for over a decade, but it was just three years ago that I started Kelsey Mitchener Editing as an official business. Now I’m making the jump to this being my full-time gig, and I couldn’t be happier about it.

Staying Small

staying small | Kelsey Mitchener Editing Services

I’ve been thinking a lot lately about my small business: how to shape it; how to grow it. In the next few months I’m looking to do some big things and make some big changes, but I always want to stay small.

I love being a one-woman show, the smallest of teams (for one thing, I happen to love my boss). But sometimes I listen too much to voices around me. You’re too isolated, they say. You’re not a team player. You’ll never be enough on your own. Well, they’re wrong. When you love what you do and you’re awesome at doing it, I say just keep doing what you’re doing. (And surround yourself with kinder voices.)

Anyway, I’m loving this gentle reminder from entrepreneur Jason Fried that there’s nothing wrong with staying small.

Shop Talk Feature

I’m excited to be featured on Chicago Manual of Style’s Shop Talk this month, along with a slew of other writers and editors. We’re sharing some of our resolutions for 2015—check it out. Here’s mine:

As a freelance editor, my goal is to pick up steady work with a publishing house this year. —Kelsey M.

Any leads on how I can go about pursuing this goal? I’ve got a few ideas, but I’m all ears for any hints and ideas you might have.

The icing on the cake: I was randomly picked to win a CMOS tote bag. Yay!

Share your own goals with me in the comments!

Happy New Year!

Rifle Paper Co. calendars | Happy 2015

Happy 2015! Time to switch out my Rifle Paper Co. calendars (I’m obsessed with this stationery shop). 🙂 I love the feeling of a new year and a fresh start.

Looks like my new appointment calendar is wide open for now (although I need to fill in a few upcoming deadlines)—let me know if I can work with you on an editing project or two this coming year. I’m excited to be in a position to amp up my freelance editing in 2015, and it’s one of my main goals for the year. What are your resolutions?

Here’s to health and happiness to you and yours! Happy New Year!
